Foster + Heart is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization located in Idaho’s Treasure Valley. We operate two loving homes, Mimi’s House and Bubba’s House, specially designed to provide nurturing environments for children during their transition into foster care.

Our Founder

Kate Wilson is the driving force behind Foster + Heart, a passionate advocate for children, and a visionary leader. In 2017, she became a foster mom, initially intending to help just one child. Little did she know that within 10 months, her home would be filled with five children, all under the age of four. This initial desire to help turned into forever as she adopted her five children in 2020. During her journey, Kate identified a crucial need within the foster care system: a warm, nurturing place for children awaiting placement. This vision led to Mimi’s House offering solace to children in transition to foster care.

The Big Picture

Foster + Heart’s mission is rooted in the growing need for support in Idaho’s foster care system. In 2022 alone, 2,756 children were served through the state’s foster care program. While 1,293 children found their way out of foster care, it’s crucial to understand the challenges children in foster care face. Of those who exited, 62% were successfully reunified with their parents or caregivers. Additionally, 309 children were adopted from foster care, emphasizing the significance of stable, loving homes. Yet, the demand persists. As of June 2022, there were only 1,209 licensed resource families in Idaho. A particularly pressing concern is that right now, across the state, there are 40 teenagers in need of loving homes.

These numbers underscore the urgent need for organizations like Foster + Heart.

We focus on three main initiatives: Residential Care Facilities, The Essentials Project, and Local Events for the Foster Care Community.

Residential Care Facilities

These homes offer vital care and stability while children await placement with the right foster family, often ensuring that sibling sets can stay together to maintain essential family bonds. With Mimi’s House and Bubba’s House already making a significant impact, we are committed to expanding our reach and transforming the lives of even more children in the Treasure Valley.

The Essentials Project

This initiative is dedicated to providing care packages to all local foster children. These care packages include crucial items like clothing, toiletries, pajamas, and more, ensuring that children have access to the essentials when they first enter their foster homes. By offering these items, we aim to alleviate stress and create a sense of security for children who may have left their homes with only the clothes on their backs.

“I’ve watched many kids open these up and just the joy and delight of getting something maybe they’ve always wanted, like a squishmallow or new shoes or new pants or new clothes. It really makes an impact on their life and just makes them feel like, hey, the community is here to support you. We’re wrapping ourselves around you to make you know you’re loved and valued.”

Local Events for the Foster Care Community

We believe that a thriving foster care community is built on compassion, understanding, and shared moments of joy. Through engaging local events like Interest Nights, Foster Family Fun Days, and more, we provide support for everyone involved in the foster care system. These events create opportunities for foster families to connect, share experiences, and build lasting bonds.
